Buying Chinese Products – Yes or No?

Today market is loaded with Chinese products. In fact, the three most used words on the product label are “made in China”. Almost all manufacturers choose China simply because of cheaper labor. However, cheap labor does not equal low quality. But, does this apply to Chinese manufacturers? People rank products according to their brand name. If a label says “Christian Dior” or “Mercedes-Benz”, no one would question the country of manufacture. Does the same notion apply to Chinese manufacturers? The answer would have to be, NO. Many find Chinese products inferior because of their low prices. For so long, Chinese manufacturers have been associated with ‘not worth the money’ products because of their lower standards. But this has changed in the past 10-plus years.

Mahindra-tractor-logoLet’s take tractors as an example. Farmers steer away from Chinese tractors because they believe these tractors are of lower quality and not as durable as some world known brands. But this is not true. In the past decade, China has became number one producer of tractors in the world. And customer testimonials prove this. Over the years Chinese tractor manufactures greatly improved their products in terms of quality, design, performance and features, all to meet world standards and satisfy customers’ needs. Yes, a tractor dealer who does not supply Chinese products will definitely dissuade you from buying one. But, is this because Chinese tractors are really of low quality or because he would like to make more money? Keep in mind, when buying any product, you pay for brand name as well. And because Chinese manufacturers such as Mahindra are not highly acclaimed, their products come with affordable price tags. But these tractors also come with powerful engines and various features which make them suitable for any farming job.

And what about cars. Chinese automotive companies strive to become part of automobile market.

It is a tough battle, but considering the fact that China is the fastest growing country (production of passenger cars and light trucks grew 4.3% every year from 2009 to 2012), we’ll surely see more China’s vehicles on the roads in the future. Great Wall Motors is already gaining world acknowledgment. This Chinese automaker is already gaining popularity on the Australian auto market, but because of people’s perception of Chinese products, it will take some time to completely gain customer loyalty.

So, should you buy products from Chinese manufacturers? Why not. In the past decade they have proved that they invest in quality, innovative technology just like highly acclaimed brands. Their products are durable, reliable, safe and have long service life. Invest in a new Chinese car model, compact tractor or any other type of machinery, and save money. But, do not take our word for granted. Do your own research, read customer testimonials, visit forums and decide whether a Chinese product is good for you and your business.
