Astrology is the study of the influence that distant cosmic objects like stars and planets, have on human lives. Traditional and modern astrology are indivisible, interdependent and complementary. The astrology practiced in Europe between A.D. 1200 and 1700, today is known as traditional astrology. Traditional astrology is divided into four main categories: natal, horary, electional and mundane astrology. By using a number of techniques, traditional astrology is able to provide precise and accurate prediction of concrete events. On the other hand, what most contemporary astrologers consider to be “astrology” is actually, its own distinctive system known as modern astrology. Modern astrology is heavily influenced by psychology and the New Age philosophical outlook. Modern astrology is excellent for psychological insight, but cannot predict the future events with the preciseness of traditional astrology. - The traditional astrology concentrates on making concrete and precise prediction of concrete events, while modern astrology primarily focuses on natal astrology and uses the client’s birth chart to assist in giving them psychological counseling. The main focus on modern astrology is psychological motivation and inner events, while the traditional astrology is focused on outer events and precise prediction.
- While in traditional astrology, the second house is your money, in modern astrology, the second house is your perception of your money. This means that traditional astrology sees things as separated from the person. Traditional astrologer can predict if money is good or bad for you, if they come easily to you or with hardship, etc. On the other hand, modern astrology is how your money affects you and your mind.
- Modern astrology is mostly concerned with what’s in your head, while traditional astrology assumes you know what’s in your head, and is more concerned with concrete events in the outside world.
- Modern astrology doesn’t like “bad” things such as bad planets, bad houses and they are generally seen as being the products of a “non enlighten age”. Modern astrology only cares about the subjective view of things.
- Many astrologer believe that modern astrology is more accurate than traditional, because in the past only 70% of the planets were known. However, this isn’t true, because modern and traditional astrology have completely different techniques.
- Modern astrologers believe that astrology should be recognized as science. Many of them don’t know or reject the original foundations of astrology and their spiritual (magical) view of the universe and look for theories that are more mainstream in nature.
However, keep in mind that when choosing between traditional and modern astrology, the key factor is to know what sort of information are you seeking. Because, if you want an insight into your psyche, then modern astrology is the best, but if you want a precise prediction of some concrete events, you should choose traditional astrology.
