But what’s even more alarming is that refined sugar can harm the immune system and weaken its ability to fight bacteria, viruses and parasites. Some researches have even linked high sugar intake to cancer. Moreover, sugar ages you, lessens your brain’s capability to process and remember information, overloads your liver, etc. To put it bluntly, sugar is BAD. Hence, if you love yourself and want to live longer, now is the right time to break bad diet habits.

But the questions that baffle many are “What to sweeten my food with?”, “What is good for me and what can have harmful effects on my health?” Turning to sugar substitutes surely is a better choice. And luckily, today they are readily available to everyone, but since not all artificial sweeteners are regarded as healthy, which one do you choose? One words: Stevia!

Stevia artificial sweetener, according to fitness experts and nutritionists, is the best of best. It is a natural, no-calorie sweetener, made from a green sweet-leaf herb native to South America. Although it has been around for centuries, it only recently gained world-wide popularity and today it is everywhere; from sodas and sports drinks to packets and dissolvable tablets. Stevia artificial sweetener is also available in liquid drops and in different flavours, from coconut, peppermint, lemon and orange to cinnamon, vanilla, chocolate and even English toffee. How great is that!

So, what is it that makes this sugar substitute so wonderful? The glycoside compounds is what makes stevia sweet, even over 150 times sweeter than refined sugar. And there are no added calories. Can you believe it?! But it is not the power of sweetness that makes stevia the champion. Stevia artificial sweetener contains some vitals minerals and vitamins and studies have shown that it can lower blood pressure by blocking calcium ion channels in cell membranes (similar mechanism to some HBP medications). Being a non-carbohydrate sweetener, stevia does not support the growth of mouth bacteria, the causative agent of dental caries and tooth cavities. Also this powerful green herb has many natural anti-oxidants that can help lower cholesterol and control Type II diabetes, currently one of the biggest health problems in the world.

So far there have not been any adverse effect on health linked to Stevia artificial sweetener, and that is the main reason why I hereby declare it the “king of sweeteners”.
